CHINA - INTRODUCTION

China has a key role to play in the immense environmental challenge facing the globe at this time. On the one hand, it is the largest source of Greenhouse Gas emissions with over 6 billion metric tons of CO2. But on the other, it is the largest supplier of CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects in the world. Some recent facts:

•  China had 84% market share of the Primary CDM market in 2008.
•  Between 2002-2008, China accounted for 66% of all contracted CDM supply in the market.
•  From January 2008 to March 2009, the CDM pipeline in China grew steadily to about 1730 projects.
•  800 Chinese projects entered the pipeline since January.

It is clear that China wishes to embrace this role and encouragingly in July 2009, US and Chinese officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding ahead of the COP 15 in Copenhagen (December 2009).
 
BlueNext’s formal involvement in China began with the China Beijing Environment Exchange in June 2009 where both exchanges have agreed to jointly publish and promote CDM projects based in China.
